Our story begins with two substitute teachers in their mid-twenties, Ruth Hanly (Booe) and Rebecca Gooch. After years of being in the education field, both women had come to the conclusion that they were not cut out for substituting and teaching. Instead, the young women ventured into the confectionary business after having received high praise from family and friends for the gifts of chocolates given during past holidays. It was in 1919 that Rebecca Ruth Candy was born! Through the hardships of Prohibition, Women's Suffrage, World War's I and II, and the Great Depression, our company still stands strong at an incredible 101 years of operation.
We are most known for the Kentucky delicacy- the original Bourbon Ball! Invented by Ruth Booe in 1938, it is still our most popular piece of candy to this day. Our famous candy consists of a creamy bourbon center with a kick of Evan Williams bourbon, covered in dark chocolate, and topped with a southern pecan.
We are a Kentucky Proud, third-generation family owned business. And although times have been tough, we are happy to have had our fourth generation enter the business. We pride ourselves in our large selection of candy, always made with real ingredients. We thank all of our customers for supporting us throughout the years, and we are excited to see what the future has in store for us!
